Highlights from the Organizing Summit
It was so wonderful hosting, along with our friends, the 2024 Grassroots Organizing Summit this past Saturday in Boston. Community leaders in our network met in person, shared campaign and organizing stories, and networked through panels and workshops. It truly was an inspiring day.
Forty environmental leaders and activists attended the summit from 5 states. One of the biggest highlights of the day was recognizing outstanding accomplishments of a number of the attending community organizations. Mary Lampert received the Legacy Award for her many decades working to protect communities from nuclear waste. Audrey Symon received the Youth Activist Award for leading the charge to pass a clean energy resolution in her school district, and Tom Tower and Wayne Morrison accepted the Outstanding Community Group Award on behalf of North Country Alliance for Balanced Change for their work to fight landfills and protect clean water.
I’m grateful to support and be a part of this activist community, fighting environmental and public health threats.
I’m sharing a few of the inspirational take-aways from the summit.
There was so much energy in the room at the end of the summit. Folks were discussing their own campaigns, finding ways to connect each other in future efforts, giving each other advice. I have no doubt that coming out of the summit, these community leaders will be bringing that energy to their own work and neighborhoods to make real change building healthier and greener communities this year.
