Food Waste Diversion in Schools Webinar Recording
On Thursday, March 5th, 2026, the Zero Waste Massachusetts coalition hosted the “Food Waste Diversion in Schools” Webinar. We were joined by 50 attendees who learned about how schools are addressing food waste in Massachusetts. We want to extend a big thank you to our panel of experts (listed below) for their great presentations, and for their time engaging with attendees in the Q and A at the end of the webinar.
Kylie Hanson, Policy Anaylist with Frontier Group presented her findings from the “How to Reduce Food Waste in Massachusetts” report co-authored by Frontier Group, MassPIRG Research and Policy Center and the Clean Water Fund.
Heather Billings, Senior Waste Reduction Consultant with RecyclingWorks MA presented her work with schools to reduce food waste by both diverting scraps and reducing edible food waste. She went through the No-Cost Assistance for Massachusetts Schools tool, created by RecyclingWorks MA and the Green Team, going through ways schools can reduce their food waste such as share tables and other resources.
Rachel Oliveri, Sustainability Project Manager with Arlington Public Schools presented her work at Arlington Public Schools, and how food waste reduction is happening due to the collaborative efforts with students, faculty, and staff through planning, infrastructure, town officials and a lot of gumption.
