About Us

WHAT WE BELIEVE

At Community Action Works, we believe that environmental threats are big, but the power of well-organized community groups is bigger.

That’s why we work side by side with everyday people to confront those who are polluting and harming the health of our communities. We partner with the people who are most impacted by environmental problems, training them with the know-how anyone would need to make change in their own backyard.

Because when you and your neighbors know how to make change, you can build the power to transform your world.

THE PROBLEM

Too many people feel alone, powerless to make change. If something is threatening your health, your community, and your environment, chances are you and your neighbors want to stop it but may feel that nobody will listen to you.

That’s why you need someone in your corner who believes in you and will work side by side with you to build your community’s power for change. Because when you and your neighbors take action, your community will join you.

Lasting change starts local, in cities, towns, and neighborhoods. We know that real, lasting change takes root when people get together and take action at the local level. There are very few groups that will come to your neighborhood and train you and your neighbors on how to take action.

And when community groups know how to make local democracy work for their health and environment, they lead the movement for large-scale transformation.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to work side-by-side with communities, empowering you with the skills and resources needed to prevent or clean up pollution at the local level.

Since 1987, Community Action Works has worked with more than 1,000 communities and trained more than 20,000 individuals to confront polluters and seed solutions across the Northeast. See stories of how we work.
