With climate deniers in Washington, Massachusetts must press forward with clean energy.
I know that we only have till July 31st, so please act swiftly!
Fortunately, the MA House has advanced a comprehensive environmental justice bill, H2913, and the MA Senate has advanced omnibus energy legislation, an Act to Promote a Clean Energy Future. I support the Massachusetts Environmental Justice Act and the following energy proposals contained within Senate energy legislation.
1. Accelerate the Renewable Portfolio Standard to reach at least 50% clean energy by 2030, a 3% annual increase. Multiple bills on the RPS are in the Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy committee and the RPS is included in Senate Omnibus Legislation. Please contact leadership and Chairs Rep. Golden and Sen. Barrett to support a 3% increase in the RPS.
2. Pass the Environmental Justice Act, H2913/S426, currently in House Ways and Means, and included in H4438, the redrafted environmental bond bill. Please contact Speaker DeLeo, Senate President Chandler, Rep. Cabral, Rep. Sanchez, Sen. Keenan and Sen. Spilka to urge their support for environmental justice.
3. Pass the Solar for All Act, H3396/S1831, currently in Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy, & Prohibit Unfair First-in-the-Nation Fees on Solar announced in January 2018. Both of these are accomplished in An Act Promoting a Clean Energy Future. Please contact Chairs Rep. Golden and Sen. Barrett to urge them to support H3396/S1831 and urge leadership to support An Act Promoting a Clean Energy Future.
4. Plan for Climate Change and Set Binding 2030 and 2040 targets (H2149/S479). These bills were reported favorably to the Senate Climate Committee and included in Senate Omnibus legislation, An Act Promoting a Clean Energy Future. Please urge leadership to support this reform.
5. Reform the Department of Public Utilities, protect ratepayers from self-dealing and prevent subsidies for gas pipelines (S.1847/H.3400). This bill is included in An Act Promoting a Clean Energy Future. Please urge leadership to support DPU reform.
