Solidarity Statement in Support of the Wet’suwet’en Tribe
We the undersigned write in support of the Wet’suwet’en Tribe. We see the work to protect the land from mining/drilling/pipelines, corporate greed and settler colonial mindset as deeply linked to our own work.
Firstly, because we believe in indigenous sovereignty. The Federal and Provincial Governments of Canada must recognize Anuk ‘nu’at’en (Wet’suwet’en law). Wet’suwet’en territories were never surrendered or ceded by treaty or war. The Anuk ‘nu’at’en have jurisdiction on Wet’suwet’en land – not Provincial or Canadian Law.
Secondly, because we know that we must keep fossil fuels in the ground everywhere. Corporate greed has impacted all peoples on the Earth, and has hit indigenous, black, low-income and people of color first and worst. We work in solidarity with all people fighting for a loving existence on this planet.
Lastly, we write in support because we want to lift up the fights led by those most impacted and center their work in our movements.
