Mass Power Forward 2017-2018 Legislative Agenda
Massachusetts needs to be bolder than ever on climate and energy policy. Right now is a critical time for energy in Massachusetts. Our governor still hasn’t publicly opposed new pipelines. Low income communities and communities of color are routinely left out of environmental progress. And the effects of climate change on our state are already being felt.
With the Mass Power Forward coalition, we are calling for bold and historic commitments to clean energy. We need to take crucial steps towards clean, renewable energy, set forward strong climate goals, and move environmental justice principles into law.
Learn more about our top five priorities.
Many of our priorities are included in An act to promote a clean energy future, S2302. View factsheet.
Accelerating Renewable Energy
We want to achieve at least 50% clean energy by 2030. We plan to do this by accelerating the Renewable Portfolio Standard by at least 3% each year, driving demand for renewable power and growing our local clean energy industries. View factsheet.
Solar Access for All
All communities should benefit from solar energy. This legislation would expand to solar energy projects to low and moderate income communities, incentivizing projects that expand access and breaking down barriers to participation. View factsheet.
Environmental Justice
Environmental justice is based on the principle that all people have a right to be protected from environmental pollution and to live in and enjoy a clean and healthful environment. Environmental justice is the equal protection and meaningful involvement of all people with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws. This legislation would make these principles law. View factsheet.
Reforming the Department of Public Utilities and Ramping Down on Fossil Fuel
We need a Department of Public Utilities (DPU) that is accountable to moving us forward on clean energy. The public should be able to intervene at the DPU and make sure that the decisions made on our energy are safe, healthy and make sense for our climate. View factsheet.
Acting on Climate Change — and Planning for It
We need a comprehensive and detailed plan to meet our climate goals. This legislation would provide a plan to implement our goals and keep our state safe and healthy as we experience the effects of climate change. View factsheet.
