Public Hearing on Pesticide Bills – Save the Date!
November 12, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm UTC+0
We at NOFA/Mass received advanced notice that several pieces of proposed pesticide-related legislation will receive a public hearing on the same day, before the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture at the Mass. State House (Boston). This is the critical point in the legislative process where the committee solicits input directly from the public on bills they are considering. Having a high volume of activity – testimony, attendance and general buzz – increases the perceived importance of a given bill/issue, and thus its likelihood of passing.
Save the Date: November 12th at the State House in Boston – Public hearing on multiple pesticide bills:
H.763 – “An Act to protect Massachusetts pollinators” (Rep. Dykema)
S.447/H.776 – “An Act empowering towns and cities to protect residents and the environment from harmful pesticides” (Sen. Cyr, Rep. Fernandes)
H.791 – “An Act relative to improving pesticide protections for Massachusetts schoolchildren” (Rep. Gentile)
H.792 – “An Act relative to the prohibition of the transfer or use of glyphosate in the Commonwealth” (Rep. Gentile)
S.499, “An Act relative to the use of glyphosate on public lands.” (Sen. Lewis)
While the hearing has not yet been publicly listed (as of 9/23/19), we received advanced word from committee staffers that the above bills will be on the docket on November 12th at 1:00 PM in Room A-2. We are planning an educational event with legislative cosponsors, to precede the actual hearing (thus the 11 am start time).
You can find more details on all of these and other priority bills on the NOFA/Mass policy page: https://www.nofamass.org/content/legislative-priorities
Please help us maximize the impact we will have on November 12th:
1. Share this event page, invite other pesticide activists so they can “Save The Date.”
2. Take action on one of the priority bills and share this action page so we can increase the reach of our network that we will be able to mobilize for November 12th:
***TAKE ACTION to “Ban Glyphosate (and other toxic pesticides) from Playgrounds and Schools in Massachusetts”***
