National Pollinator Week!
June 18, 2017 - June 25, 2017
Bees and other pollinators, essential for the two-thirds of the food crops humans eat everyday, are in great peril, and populations are dwindling worldwide. Globally, between $235 billion and $577 billion worth of annual global food production relies on direct contributions by pollinators.Beekeepers have lost an average of 30%-40% of their hives over the last decade, with some beekeepers losing all of their hives. Many are leaving this essential industry.
The science is clear: neonicotinoids (neonics) — the most widely used class of insecticides in the world – are a key factor in recent global bee deaths and glyphosate—the most widely used herbicide in the word is a key factor in monarch decline. We need more awareness to this issue, as well as safer use of chemicals.
