Elected Officials, Environmental Groups, & Citizens Speak Out Against Wheelabrator Proposal to Expand Saugus Ash Landfill
February 15, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+0
Local leaders and environmental advocates will join and outline their reasons why the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection should not grant Wheelabrator Saugus a permit to expand its ash landfill for another five to ten years. On November 1, 2017, the MassDEP issued a Provisional Decision that would allow Wheelabrator Saugus to dispose an additional estimated 500,000 tons of contaminated ash into its landfill, which is within the Rumney Marshes Area of Critical Environmental Concern. A public comment period ended on January 12th, 2018, and MassDEP is currently mulling the proposal, with a decision expected later this month.
