Environmental Justice Forum in New Bedford, Mass., Highlights the Work Ahead
In June, Community Action Works joined local leaders, longtime community activist Buddy Andrade and top EPA Region 1 officials for an environmental justice forum held in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
New Bedford is home to many immigrants, communities of color and poor families. It is also home to the single most contaminated Superfund site in the country—among other environmental burdens.
We’ve been working with local activists for years to clean up toxics, stop fracked gas projects, and build a healthier New Bedford. But there is still work to do, and at the public forum we discussed the steps ahead.
The event was also a memorial for long-time environmental justice leader Eddie Johnson, who passed away last year at the age of 72. Eddie’s impact continues to be felt in New Bedford and beyond.
